Choosing to embrace a benevolent life may seem unusual or eccentric at first. For some of you, being benevolent may sound like something outside your reality and beyond your comprehension or interest. But the truth is that being benevolent is accessible to anyone who is choosing to have a generative life and desiring to create a sustainable future on our planet earth.
Most people see being benevolent as being virtuous, expressing goodwill, charitable, altruistic, philanthropic, unselfish and humanitarian. This is not the true meaning of benevolent. The word “benevolent” originates from an ancient Latin word which really means - wishing well to all concerned. In Latin, ‘bene’ means well, and ‘volent’ means for all.
In our view, a benevolent way of being goes beyond the ideas of seeking to do well by doing good or philanthropic thinking. The perspective of a benevolent life goes beyond being ethical, or social and moral responsibility. A benevolent life entails living with awareness, and choosing to be a catalyst for change, and indeed, creates more possibilities in the world. The term benevolent itself implies choosing the kindest way, the least damagingway to create something greater in the world so that we all can have an greater sustainable future.
The two of us (Chutisa & Steve) were drawn to live a benevolent life, because we wish to be a contribution to our own life, as well as being a contribution to creating a new reality on planet earth. We came to the awareness that if many of us chose to be more conscious and chose to live a benevolent life, different possibilities could be created in the world.
Indeed, a different way of living is truly possible. Many years ago, we began asking "What else is possible?" and "What can we be and do different to create a different reality and a sustainable future on the planet?" Together with Gary Douglas (the founder of Access Consciousness), we extrapolated the idea of Benevolent Capitalism - a different possibility for capitalism that could lead to the creation of a world not governed primarily by scarcity and greed.
Our life and our business have changed and transformed greatly since we started working on the Benevolent Capitalism project with Gary. And, most importantly, our awareness started to come to life as we made a choice to take the first steps to living a benevolent life and to change the way we created our life, our business and our reality, once and for all.
